Numerical modelling of evolution of a thin magnetic tube using Hamiltonian approach

A novel approach to the construction of conservative schemes for a model case of the evolution of a thin magnetic tube is applied. It has been shown how to introduce an approximating discrete system which is used to derive the corresponding Lagrangian. As a result, robust up-to-date numerical schemes can be applied to such a system to provide a very accurate description of long-term evolution. The potential pitfalls and solutions are highlighted.
