On the occurrence of motion in a finite cylinder

The problem of the onset of convection in a cylindrical container was considered. To solve it, we use the method of separation of variables. As a result, we obtained a homogeneous equation of the sixth order with constant coefficients along with a complicated set of boundary conditions. In the case of monotonic disturbances, the analytical expression for the critical Marangoni numbers were found. Also, we consider the case when the system is in a weightlessness state. In this case, it is proved that as radius of the cylinder increases, the critical Marangoni numbers tends to the known numbers Marangoni for the infinite layer.
